We have been very happy with the keyboards on the ASUS Eee 1000, but stay
away from them. Both of the ones we bought had to be RMA'd within the year
- and only one came back fixed.

I've also been happy with the network remix interface on stock Ubuntu.

While I don't have any hands on experience, if your budget allows, I would
look for one with the nVidiia ION chipset. You will get MUCH better video
performance since it includes nVidia 9400 video chipset and longer battery
life (all else being equal) than with the "stock" Intel 945G chipset. The
price on these seems to be in the $500 range. Brand wise, ASUS created the
whole netbook segment with the Eee and as I recall from a recent vendor
showcase, ASUS gives a 1 yr warranty that includes screen breakage at no
extra charge. This may only apply to notebooks and not the netbooks, but it
is worth checking out.
