[ale] nslookup works, ping doesn't ???

The documentation the resolv.conf itself suggests it IS in fact used but
that you shouldn't modify it by hand if you want to use netconfig.  It
says modifying it will disable the netconfig stuff (whatever that is).
So putting in original resolv.conf as Gred did works because it has the
same effect as manual edit (which includes disabling netconfig).

I'm seeing some references complaining about weird behavior with an
empty resolv.conf and needing to remove it and then the problem goes
away (I got the impression it then gets created properly but I could be
wrong).  Except those references are in some bug reports wrt 11.2 RC1
and had something to do with NetworkManager.
