If you configure your network the Debian way (/etc/network/interfaces),
Network Manager will back off and leave your config alone.  If you want
to create a bridge (br0) for virtualization or multiple Ethernet cards,
be sure that you do:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet manual

for each ethernet card so that NM ignores it.
