[ale] Preventing reboot on short duration power loss

I did take the battery.

The issue had to do with the way the little bottom panel worked and it
wasn't readily noticeable until one tried to close the panel. That is
to say the battery fit just fine into the compartment - the panel
wouldn't close because of a minor difference. This was the only battery
that was the same size. I identified it first by visual inspection but
then asked the clerk to look up the replacement for the unit I had and
she came up with the same one I'd identified. (I did NOT tell her which
one I had identified.)

The only way I could really have avoided it would have been to take the
APC unit itself with me and try the battery before buying. There's a
limit to how far you can go. Would I then have asked them to let me
plug in one of their cash registers and pulled main power to verify the
battery worked?

We always take the old battery with us to the batteries plus store.

I don't do it personally, but I believe we've had very good success
finding the exact battery we need.

Jeff,

Good point, you might find some compatibility issues - but APC does
sell the batteries also, and if you have the exact type
of the old battery, you can *probably* google a match somewhere for
smaller bucks.. bucks vs. time, as always.... The price of a
new one is not much more, but I like keeping the old ones out of the
landfill if they are usable.

I think that some of the home improvement stores are carrying SLA's
also now (it seems like I saw some at one
point or another). Probably discontinued by now, however
