TITLE: RESEARCH TECHNOLOGIST I (a research faculty appointment)
DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking an experienced high-performance computing administrator/
manager to provide technical leadership and oversight of a rapidly
growing set of leading-edge computational resources.
The Computational Sciences and Engineering (CSE) division supports
interdisciplinary research and education in computer science and
applied mathematics using parallel computers such as IBM p-Series and
Cell BladeCenters, IBM BlueGene systems, Sun Enterprise servers, GPU
computing, Sony PlayStations, and Linux clusters, some of which
possess very large storage systems and/or use high-speed HPC
interconnects (e.g. Gigabit Ethernet and Infiniband). The CSE mission
is designed to innovate and create new expertise, technologies, and
practitioners. The candidate will work in support of research data
centers with existing HPC systems, collaborate on research and
application development, and migrate users to tera- and peta-scale
systems. The candidate will work closely with the CoC Technology
Services Organization to align with the CSE division and implement
large-scale, automated approaches to managing substantial quantities
of high-performance computing resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications include a bachelors degree.
Must have the ability to contribute to existing research agendas and
assist in the preparation and execution of research proposals and
budgets.
Should have experience in high-performance research computing or large
data centers, and in-depth understanding of the following:
- operating systems
- queuing systems and schedulers
- networking infrastructure issues
- storage solutions related to HPC
- high-speed HPC interconnects (e.g., Infiniband)
- system tuning
- data backup
SKILLS
Skills should include system administration for scientific HPC
servers; workstations and storage, including cluster management; grid
computing; application software configuration; compilers; parallel
libraries; queuing and scheduling; knowledge of at least two
programming and script languages; proficiency in project planning and
project management; ability to work independently as well as
collaborate with end users and other system administrators. Candidate
should have proven communications skills, make presentations, create
technical documentation, strong service orientation, supervise junior
personnel.
