Hi Terry,

Out of curiosity, just how old is this camcorder anyway? 'Cause, gosh, that
import method is sooo 2002. ;cP

Check out the Neuros OSD Linux Media Recorder on sale for $179.99:

I drooled over one of these when I saw it on DL.TV before they became Dead.TV

Naturally, if the camcorder has FireWire, then simply drop a FireWire card in
your computer and go before spending more than a Jackson or two.

But let me posit another possibility if you will. Assuming the camcorder has
FireWire out or RCA (Composite) output jacks, there are stand-alone DVD burners
for under $100 that will let you transfer from the camcorder directly onto a
DVD, with a menu and everything. Of course, it is MPEG-2 at that point. And if
it is running over FireWire, the burner actually controls the camcorder.

Case in point: I picked up an RCA upverter DVD player/recorder for $50
refurbished. On Christmas morning, I simply set my camcorder up on the
entertainment center, plugged it into the RCA, fired both up and dropped in a
fresh DVD. Remote control in hand we had Christmas. The remote allowed me to
pause it during those low points of the morning. When we finished, I spent a
few minutes renaming the disk and finalizing the disk. The DVD was ready to
duplicate and send out in a matter of seconds.

It is similar to this Samsung model DVD-R155 for $70:

HTH,
Robert~
