My understanding is that the radio stations are broadcasting loud
because it sounds better when you have a marginal signal.  That gets
them more listeners on the outskirts of your broadcast area.

Is road noise really a problem for most cars?  Maybe I've been driving a
convertible too long, but when I'm in a regular car the road and wind
are so QUIET :).
