[ale] Ubuntu 7.10 -> 8.04

LTS is one of the things that appeals to me about 8.04, and the main
reason why I've been thinking about upgrading.  Bad press (mostly on
the ALE list, but elsewhere as well) is why I have been hesitating.

Given the risks on my primary home machine, I probably will do a clean
install.  But it's good to hear that a migration is possible.
