I'm sure a few folks have said this already, but you might want to
consider just a straight linux solution. A barebones debian install
customized to your needs will probably be a better long term solution
in the case that your environment's needs evolve beyond the
capabilities of the NAS appliance. I needed something similar a few
months ago, and after looking at all the options, I finally said screw
it, tossed a sata cage and a 3ware card into an old box I had sitting
around and just built my NAS from the ground up. It's now happily file
sharing with my windows boxes using AD authentication, my other linux
boxes, and with AFP for my Macbook.
