You shouldn't need it for static addresses.  Just make sure you haven't
inadvertently set one of your unused NICs as active with DHCP as it
would likely overwrite and may explain why it is blank.

By the way the file is /etc/dhclient_conf on Debian though the man page
says /etc/dhclient.conf.

Thanks, I'll look into that solution, if it works for static addresses.

I'm using static addresses and have my own bind server.
