u r correct, Geoffrey. a disk is just a disk. The box booted up to Linux
just fine, with the EIDE disk replaced in-place.
It was peculiar that the grub loading is rather slow. 15s before it says
'GRUB loading stage 1.5', then another 15s bfore it says 'loading GRUB'.
Once I got to the GRUB boot menu, everything seems to normal speed.
