no, I didn't find that. Looking at it, it is just about what I had already 
done over 2 days of.... playing around with it.
after not getting it to work yesterday, I finally ran ENVY, and it DID work 
last night!
I still have an issue with my keyboard. I can't do user switching anymore, 
CTRL-ALT-F7/8 don't do anything. here is the keyboard section from xorg.conf:
