Hey ALErs,

Cecil Watson of Knoppmyth fame recently announced that Knoppmyth,
Mythdora, and MythUbuntu are working together to promote a world wide
"MythTV Installation Party" to be held on February 16th.

In April of 2006, I helped organize a MythTV Build-In here, and while
I'd prefer not to be the sole organizer of a local MythTV Installation
Party (I am expecting a new born on January 6th), if no one else is
willing, I'll give it a go.

I've found that it is helpful in organizing events of this type to
obtain the input, blessing, and generate a bit of enthusiasm from
others who might have more experience and knowledge than me.

In short, I seek ALErs' general objections, suggestions, opinions and
random musings on the topic?

Thanks,
H. Preston

Howdy,

A few weeks ago, a user posted on the KnoppMyth forum about a KnoppMyth
Installation Party. Great idea I thought. However he is in Europe and
I cannot say I have any plans of going to Europe within the next 9
months... At any rate, I thought why not parties all over the world?

So, we started chatting it up on the KnoppMyth forum and we have folks
interested hosting parties! We (I actually) decided on Saturday,
February 16th as the day of the party.

Well, I thought... Why not open this up. Although KnoppMyth would
be/have been the installation method at WKIP, the focus would be on
MythTV. So, I've chatted with Dennis (MythDora) and Dave (Mythubntu)
about a Worldwide MythTV Installation Party. Both liked the idea!

The idea is simple, get together and hopefully introduce new people to
MythTV. Here is what we have in mind:

Each location would have a host. The host would be responsible for
finding a location for the party. Ideally, the location would have
Internet access, cable and hopefully be able to get a good OTA signal.
Enough room to work for folks that would be building systems, etc.

At the party, MythTV would be installed using your distro of choice.

It would be nice to have folks step up and do things like demo editing,
achieving, etc.

So, what does everyone thing? Anyone interested in hosting a party?

I'll create an area on the KnoppMyth forum dedicated to the party this
week. While that area will be open for all to browse, you will have to
register to post. This is to avoid spam. If anyone has a better idea
on organizing a site with info on the party, please speak up.

Regards,

Cecil
