FYI: There is a site for jobs that is supposed to be devoid of
recruiters:
http://www.recruiterless.com/
Haven't used it myself. It's been mentioned a few times as AUUG or ALE
meetings.
In my most recent job searches (2001 and 2003) I got the most hits from
posting my resume on monster.com.
Rather than doing "standard" resume where you just list your jobs make
sure you do a "technical summary" where you list each technology you've
worked on. A lot of the recruiters are not IT professionals so just do
keyword searches. You'll get hits for things you're not interested in
(e.g. I get hits for DBA because I list Oracle/Sybase/Informix) but it
will help insure you get hits for the things you ARE interested in.
Also if you know something has gone through a name change or is known by
more than one name (e.g. RHEL, RedHat, RedHat AS, RedHat Enterprise
Linux) put those in for those keyword searches as well.
My resume is about 6 pages long which by conventional wisdom is too long
but the addition of the technical summary definitely increased the hits.
