[ale] New Mailing List initiatives for ALE (last one, I promise)

I have had two primary issues with the list of late.  First, when a 
thread turn's into one liners passed back and forth as folks try to out 
do each other in their demonstration of humor or ingenuity or both.  I'm 
as guilty as anyone, but a good example is the thread Chris blew up on. 
  It started with a simple ping to the list:

Follow the thread folks, it looks like a bunch of folks on weed, seriously.

The other issue is the blatant, rude vitriol some folks feel is 
necessary to display towards another poster.  Folks we all have our hot 
buttons, but let's see if we can keep the personal attacks to ourselves. 
  There's only a handful of folks this applies to, but hey, that's all 
it takes.

I think if we stay away from various subjects, politics and religion 
likely being the top two, we won't see a lot of the noise that we've 
seen in the recent past.

I assure you, when I first joined this list, you didn't see posts back 
and forth regarding politics.  You didn't see relevant topics dragged 
off topic or hijacked because of a difference of opinion.

These are the issues I have with the list as it stands today.
