[ale] latest firefox tends to crash on CentOS 4.4 or is it the aged hardware is going?

I use CentOS 4.4 as my main desktop at work, with all the latest patches
(yum often!) This morning, when I clicked to exit the wiki page at
devcental site for F5.com, the Firefox crashed. I checked no left-over
processes before I restarted FireFox. Pointing to gmail.com or
dealsea.comwould just crash the browser right away. To no
avail, many times of restarting firefox and crashing at first browsing
attempt.
I 'power' off the boxen, since it hadn't been rebooted since CentOS
4.2anyway. I heard the disks stopped spinning (an old Gateway 500 mid
tower)
but the screen stayed at the Gnome Desktop w/o mouse/kbd?! I pressed the
power button to reset it. The boxen came up w/o complains. At first launch
of Firefox, it crashed right away, with 'dealsea.com' site. This time, gmail
didn't crash, so I can compose this email.
Before I go down my own troubleshooting route, anybody experienced similar
problems with the latest FireFox on RHEL 4.4 or CentOS 4.4 ?
