[ale] switch recommendations

Dumb question, but are there 1 GB ethernet switches that use GBICs?  I
know FC switches do, and I've been told that 10 GB ethernet do, but I
did not realize they would be used in 1 GB ethernet.  i.e.  The
low-end 1GB ethernet switches I have are just hardwired for cat5.
