[ale] Resolved(?): PlumbingQ: SuSE-9.3 not seeing USB handset for Skype

ALErs -

I found my handset among the SuSE-9.3 'sound' devices, appearing as
'/dev/dsp1'. ('/dev/dsp' seems to be the built-in speakers and "I'm
calling from the bottom of a deep well" microphone.

I have had some strange lockups of X-Windows and experiences of only being
able to dial one phone call before getting lost from the handset and/or
locked out, but I expect either (1) I'll find out what I'm doing wrong to
wedge the *(&^!!, or (2) I'll get a few more symptoms and be better able
to ask for help.

Meanwhile, time to get to know Skype.
