[ale] OT: Erasing a toasted drive

Sounds like you need to forget about the warranty and replace the drive 
yourself. 

Although, one time when I got into a situation like this for a client, I 
bought a drive of the approximate same size from MicroSeconds and sent 
the vendor *that* one as a replacement.
