I do not assume that it is not safe to run as root.  I've looked at the
implications and risks and weighed them for myself, and come up with my
own conclusion based on logic and fact.  I'm not sure that you can
really say the same.  The real-world implications can be vast,
especially if the said machine is online on the network of networks
known as the Internet.
