Customs has been using this kind of X-ray device for several
years now at Mexican border crossings. When my daughter moved
back to the states in the summer of 2002, they were told to
park their (overloaded) pickup truck at a certain spot and get
out of the cab and stand behind a barrier. Their entire truck was
X-rayed on the spot. Apparently whatever frequency they are using
triggers a clear response from organic materials -- including
plastic explosives. If anything suspicious turns up they empty
the truck and tear it apart if necessary. In my daughter's case,
she and her husband were on their way in minutes. They were
grateful they didn't have to completely empty the truck and then
repack it.

The machinery is large enough to X-ray an entire split rig.
