Exactly - most PCI signal lines have a maximum length of 1.5 inches
on PCI card.
The PCI clock line even must have an exact length of 2.5 inches with
a tolerance of 0.1 inches.

This being said it is always amazing how sometimes things work way
out of specs.

It is just not the right thing to do for production machines.
