Viewsonic monitors are (usually) repairable -- for a fraction
of the cost of the new 21" Apple LCD. That said, if you do
NOT need the much larger color gamut of the better CRT monitors,
the new Apple monitors sure do look good.

If you are using The Gimp to edit color pictures for production
purposes you probably should stay with a high-end CRT. If you
are printing your color images on a four-color ink jet, there is
less need for the CRT as the color space of the LCD is much closer
to that of the mid-range ink jet printers.

Before springing for the Apple LCD, you might check the prices
at MIcroCenter; There prices are lower often enough to be worth
the telephone call.

And if you need a temporary fix, Stargate Technologies (small
shop at the corner of N. Decatur and Clairmont) is selling used
Viewsonic PS790 monitors for $80-$90. That is a 19" (18" viewable)
monitor with a native resolution of 1280X1084. Smaller than your
G810, but the price is hard to beat. They may have larger ones
as well.
