[ale] couple questions

For the sake of putting in my two cents worth, here goes.

On March 1, 2003 we received notice from Johan Haagsma of Spamhaus.org
that we had a client on dedicated servers at 66.163.243.64/28 that was
considered by them to be a "bulk hoster". On about 3/4/03 we removed
them and we have since notified spamhaus that this was done.

SPEWS on the other hand lists all of the blocks owned by our upstream
provider and therefore lists us (as shown below) by RELATED, I guess
meaning that we get our netblocks from our upstream therefore we're
related. Well, since SPEWS provides no legitimate removal mechanism and
is based on the whim of some child in a newsgroup to determine the
validity of the listings, I'm not compelled to take much in the way of
action and anyone that would consider using the SPEWS list as an RBL
list would find that a majority of the Internet is unreachable by
e-mail.

In as much as spam is an irresponsible use of the Internet, I believe
that SPEWS is an irresponsible RBL. I find this type of abusive RBL as
viable as the Anti-abortion people killing abortion doctors.

So, in part we are now in the process of getting our own blocks from
ARIN. While I'm not sure that we can qualify yet, we will wait and see.

Regards,
Cary

Many are implementing different ways to kill spam, but if the group we are a member of is RBL'ed, then we can't receive its mail.
