Robert, I've had a similar curiosity (to that of the original poster).
Since you're dually experienced, what type of applications do you find
*BSD more suited to than Linux? The highest loads that my linux boxen
(my most superior boxes, to date) experience are:
~ a) very high web loads [anually when we get slashdotted] - but the
CPU load only hits about 20% at best (it's a dual AMD 1.8Ghz), as such,
I'm quite certain that the bottleneck is our T1 'net connection.
~ b) high transactional/processing load on our corporate intranet
(PHP+apache+mysql).

Could BSD offer us any enhancements in this environment? As I've said,
I've heard a lot about [F,O]BSD, but most of is only relevant in the
security/router/ftp server/closed systems. If it has some significant
offerings, I'll persue it more fervently.

Also, let's not turn this into a flamewar. I'm not baiting here, I'm
just wondering if my companie(s) could benefit by using BSD in places
that our exisiting linux environment lacks (which I haven't found any
yet; but that's the point of this message).

Your thoughts / suggestions?

- -CB
