[ale] Suse or Red Hat? (yes, yes, i know here we go again...)

Ordering off the SuSE store gives a quick turnaround via UPS or FedEx.
I prefer SuSE so far due to similarities in startup scripts to IRIX.
They both use a SysV style startup. Also, the latest SuSE 8.2 is very
polished and works well for people not versed in the command line. That
fact makes my life easier for supporting users.

I am very interested in understanding how to upgrade and downgrade
software right now. I need to downgrade gcc from 3.3-23 to 2.96 or get
them to live side by side. If I could apt-rpm gcc2.96 and it would do
what was needed, I would jump for joy.
