Hi Courtney,

If your ISP is not hosting the newsgroups (something that is very common)
then your ISP may also be blocking that type of traffic.  If your ISP is
hosting the newsgroup then an auth problem is most likely the case.
Depending on the ISP and their agreements with upstream news providers, your
ISP may only deal with authentication to their news servers when you are
posting, but your request to download news traffic could very well be
handled by your ISP's upstream news provider.  I hope that isn't too
confusing, to summarize: there may be two different authentications that are
occurring in your case.  The first is to some mega news download server
operated by an outsourced nntp service.  The second auth may be to your ISPs
local nntp server where your posts are processed.
