[ale] Linux + barcode scanners

Jonathan, Here is our situation. We have a database built in MySQL, we occasionally (read, not in a while) update the database with the service tags of the PCs throughout the Law School and include basic info, PC type, speed, OS and room location. We would like to create our own barcodes and be able scan a PC that is getting moved and change it's info in the handheld, then sync the handheld with the database. We are looking at a Compac IPAC with the barcode scanner attachment.
Thanks
Harold

Where do you need help on this? The Inventory system, reading the
bar-codes, moving the data from the Palm to a PC? Do you want a cli to
MySQL, or a web-based one?
Thanks

We are looking at implementing a barcode system to keep track of our PC
inventory at the Law School. My preference would be to use Linux+MySQL
for the database, does anyone have any experience in this area? I would
like to use a Palm with the barcode scanner attachment or something
similar.
Thanks
Harold
