[ale] KDAT help needed for SCSI tape

I seem to be missing something trying to get by tape drive working under
RH 7.2.  The only thing I have in my modules.conf referring to my scsi
adapter is:

alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx

I have tried various ways to access the tape drive and I always get a
tape not loaded message and no drive action at all.  I have not been
able to find what I need by rtfm.  The drive is a Seagate 8 gig
connected to a Adaptec 2940uw.  BTW it works flawlessly under OS/2 so I
am fairly sure it is not a hardware issue.  At one time under a RH 6.x
version the tape drive did work.  Please help as I am getting a little
nervous about not being able to backup.
