[ale] Lindows vs the semi-annual Windows suck-a-thon

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've looked at HomeBase, but it
doesn't support Slack. I'll try to check out the others tonight.
(Or maybe it's time to try RedHat again; it's been about four
years since my last attempt, which went well, but just didn't
grab me by the throat and scream, "You live this distro!")

I did manage to triumph over the Windows Suck-A-Thon. I went out to
CompUSA and bought one of their $10 PCI Ethernet cards and, lo and
behold, Windog recognized it and loaded the driver immediately. So:
I've tried three cards, a Tulip-based one (the Netgear), an
RTL1839-based one (the D-Link), and a ViaRhine based one (the CompUSA
disposable card). I had the correct Win98 driver disks for all of
them; both the Netgear and the D-Link work fine in the same machine
under Linux; and both the Netgear and the D-Link used to work in that
same machine under Win98. So the only pertinent fact seems to be that
the CompUSA card came out of its shrinkwrap today, while the others
have been sitting in various machines for a couple of years. Do
Ethernet cards have an expiration date, or something?!?!?!?
