[ale] network problem

Run an "arp -a" on both boxes after trying from both boxes to ping each
other. If you don't have ARP entries for each machine in each others
arp tables it may show a local switch or hub incompatibility with your
bonding situation. This is a lower level diagnostic for seeing if your
MAC addresses are propagating between these two machines. They should
register each other's MAC address so the icmp packets will be passed to
the right machine on your local LAN by the switch in between them. Or,
if you have a hub then the machines will just grab the packets addressed
to them up off the wire. If the MAC addresses are not propagating then
you have a interface configuration problem maybe at the driver level
that might be able to be corrected by adding an option to your driver
when it is loaded into the kernel. An example would be putting an
option on a 3Com driver to tell it to be either full duplex or half
duplex. So finding out what the options are for each of your cards and
the bonding driver would be handy at that point. Try the arp -a after
pinging and let us know if you have those addresses registered properly.
