I call "myth."
Many Doctors were saying that as a knee jerk response to the
Atkins diet (overlooking the fact that it was Dr. Atkins area of expertise).
Lately, Yahoo posted an article to say that many doctors are now changing
their opinions.
Going to what I felt would be an objective source
(http://www.heartcenteronline.com/) I found this:
http://www.heartcenteronline.com/myheartdr/home/research-detail.cfm?reutersID=3964
http://www.heartcenteronline.com/myheartdr/home/research-detail.cfm?reutersID=3941
Course, if you look around, you will find other doctors saying the opposite - but you can
also find people that say M$FT is secure. :)
As for me, when I am on the diet, I usually eat less.
(Everyone knows you don't get hungry on the diet).
1. I can comfortably eat one 16oz log of ground turkey per day!
2. The heath facts on the side claims there are 4 servings carry 33% of the daily fat allowance. (132%)
3. I cook it with the George Foreman grill. (I *guess* that brings the fat/cholesterol down under 100%)
4. The turkey has 0 carb, and 0 calories from sugar.
The point is when I am off the diet, I definately eat more fat AND sugar (and beer, liquor, wine).
Off the diet, it is easy to have a steak and potatoes dinner, McDonald's for lunch and grease for
breakfast. Off the diet I can pick up 10 pounds over a month - that weight gain is probably more
harmful. (I understand that others do the diet differently. They may binge on meat and butter.
Perhaps THAT eating disorder is the cause as opposed to the fundamentals of the diet itself.)
Also, it is important to note that one does not have to stay on the Atkins diet long term. Like me,
someone can drop to the weight they like, & alter their eating habits to sustain the weight loss.
Obvious rules to follow are
1. Eat only when you are hungry.
2. Do not continue to eat after your stomach is satisfied.
That said . . .
The logical question is "how can you raise your cholesterol if you are eating less of it?"
The second question is "if you are eating more cholesterol on the diet . . . why?"
