[ale] Trouble shooting direction?

I didn't think so, but I did check. glibc-2.3.2-5 is running on the 
system, and is on the original CD's.

I'm getting frustrated enough with this (and since it isn't a primary 
machine at the moment), I'm tempted just to perform a Windows move - wipe 
and reinstall.  Of course that just means that I get to wrassel with the 
3-D accelleration nonsense again...
