Actually it's available in GNOME 1.4, here's an excerpt from 
/etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf

[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=false
AutomaticLogin=

I've not used it but it appears pretty straight forward.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
