[ale] Copying VERY large files

        Check that you're not running up against a hard or soft
filesize limit (man ulimit, or there's probably some entries under
/proc); if it's a soft limit you might need to raise the default
before trying to run cpio or rsync.

        There's always the trusty 

tar cf - foo | ssh other '(cd /where/ever ; tar xf -)'
