If you have purchased any proprietary software licenses, the license
agreement gives them the right to do an audit. So the best thing to do
is to not purchase any such software. Second best is to buy it with
cash, and don't register. If they can't prove you have agreed to such an
audit, you can tell them to go get a search warrant. Unless you have
really deep pockets, they aren't going to bother.
If they really want you that bad, be sure to have the local tv reporters
at the front door when they arrive. Have them talk to your poor employees
who are going to be out of work because of the audit. Tell a couple of
burly warehouse guys that they won't get their paychecks until the
auditors leave.:)
I still think a well-armed Barney Fife is the best deterrent .
