ALErs,

I got a spam e-mail this morning from a company using Linux as its cover.
A company called "Mendara Systems" sent me this e-mail with the line "This
email is only sent to our existing current customers." at the bottom. Of
course, I've never done business with this company (or have heard of them
for that matter), nor do I even use the e-mail address they have for
online purchases.

A few interesting points:

The e-mail says "We have partnered with the Largest Linux Search Engine on
the web (http://www.linuxyourway.com) to bring our current customers this
hot new release for only $5.99". Now interestingly enough, the registrant
for both mendarasystems.com and linuxyourway.com is "MENDARA SYSTEMS,
INC." with the same PO Box. That's a hell of a partnership. *cough*

Google has never heard of "Mendara Systems", nor does it have any
information on linuxyourway.com. Amazing, considering the link says
Mendara is "The largest and cheapest Linux store on the Web! Nearly 1,000
products!". Yeah. Right.

And most fun of all, running lynx --source --head
http://www.mendarasystems.com says: "Server: Microsoft-IIS/4.0", and
netcraft is guessing "NT4/Windows 98". As for linuxyourway.com, we get
"Apache/2.0.40 (Win32) mod_jk2/2.0.0 on Windows 2000".

The message itself was received from "mail.mendarasystems.com" with the
real address being 68.33.199.140 (comcast IP; the mail hostname is a
web-based frontend.) The sender was listed as "Customer Support"
<Support at MendaraSystems.com>.

Just some information to share with everyone so A) you can append the
relevant information to your mailservers/filters as necessary to filter
out this crap, and B) you don't get duped into actually doing business
with these scumbags.
