I'm aware of OLE, but it was not extended into the browser until java 
showed up.

Regardless, Microsoft was not original here either.  I'm fully aware of 
Mosaic and used it quite a bit prior to netscape showing up.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
