Simple. I ama firm believer in setting up a very trim initial installation
just to get up and running. Then I install everything else from source,
much like I did years ago when Slackware was in its infancy and I was 100%
clueless. Now I'm only 50% clueless so those all night installations
aren't that bad. The advantage to doing things this way is very simple.
When you build a system this way, you become intimately familiar with
everything. All the guess work is removed from the picture. I wont get
into the disadvantages of doing things this way. To do so would probably
leave no doubt that I am still a full 50% clueless and might even get me
labeled as some sort of curmudgeon at a very young age.
