Actually, if the name starts with K it'll be run with an
argument `stop' when that run level is entered (whereas if it starts
with an S it gets `start'). If you use the RedHat chkconfig utility
it'll manage the symlinks for you, placing the apropriate K and S
links in the various runlevel directories to enable or disable the
service when a particular run level is entered (and put things at the
correct place in the sequence if there are dependencies between
several services; nfs for example wants to be linked as S60nfs if you
look at the comments at the top of /etc/rc.d/init.d/nfs (at least on
my RH7.3 box)).
