I've always found that if you research the issues enough, you'll be able
to make a purchase of laptop hardware that is fully supported.  Main
problem is, you pay the M$ tax for any laptop from the big makers.  You
might consider looking at a Linux laptop provider.  Are there any left?

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
