Hi Matt,

Your question points out one of the great strengths of Linux - its
versatility. Redhat is easy to get going and rpms are easy to work with
usually.

I prefer Debian because I want it to be easy to update a large number of
machines quickly and apt is a great tool to accomplish that. I also need
Sparc support and Debian does a good job with Sparc support. Debian
isn't so easy to get started with - it won't automagically figure out
what mudule you need for a nic or set X up for you with a wink and a nod.

There are lots of Slackware, SuSE, Mandrake, Caldera and others (see
http://www.linux.org/dist/list.html for a relatively complete list).
Each has its own appeal, investigate the differences and install a few
(they're free ;-)) surely there is a flavor to suit you.
