[ale] OT - DSL

DirecTV DSL (formerly Telocity) is what I use and what I recommend to
everyone. If you're getting DSL for the first time at a location, it may be
easier to get BellSouth DSL first, then change to DirecTV (that's what I
did).

BellSouth's "dial-up" DSL is a real hassle, and even with a router to do the
"dialing" for you, it still gets hung up now and then and has to be reset.

DirecTV DSL gives you a static IP, and it just works. I've had mine for
over a year and the only problems I've experienced with it have been when I
dug up my phoneline in my front yard, and when lightning blew out two of my
phones and the DSL gateway (they replaced it for no charge). Really, I
have NEVER HAD TO CALL TECH SUPPORT FOR ANYTHING UNTIL THE DSL GATEWAY GOT
DAMAGED BY LIGHTNING.

If you read the user comments on dslreports.com, you know that most people's
experience is very different to this, but that's how it's been for me.

Good luck.

Subject: [ale] OT - DSL

Hi,

I am moving within couple months, and will like to switch my DSL (currently
Earthlink) to something else,
preferably not using PPPOE :)

Any suggestions ?

thanks,
Tomas
