I really believe it is that many IT people do not have experience with
clusters.  Also, IT dept. tend to purchase name brand equipment that is
more expensive than just plain vanilla PCs.  Another point is that the
clustering software for Linux has just become reasonably robust for
critical applications.  This is just my thoughts.  I have wondered why
people didn't see the usefulness of the Origin2000 or Origin3000
platforms from SGI since they are so scaleable.  You can have thousands
of processors, thousands of SCSI controllers, terabytes of RAM, and all
of the resources separately controllable per CPU per UID and per
process.  It is truly an amazing architecture and has been around for
many years.  However, a Sun guy used to Solaris always looks to Sun for
solutions if possible.  You will find that as you get older that what
your used to using and what you currently are comfortable with will
guide you down a particular path.  Old guys and legacy equipment just go
together!!!
