Ah, but the post-DirecTV-takeover Telocity DSL service is LEGENDARY for 
making sweeping changes without telling anyone!  And, whereas the 
service may have once been Linux-friendly, that changed over time to 
"Linux-not-intolerant."  Tier 1 reps (which is still all you can talk to 
  when you first call even if you've had an uncleared Tier-2 or worse 
problem for weeks) generally curl up and die at the first mention of 
Linux.
