[ale] Sound from CD not working...

I've got sound in gnome, can play midi and mp3 files,
/sbin/sndconfig runs and Linus sounds AOK.
CD's play fine with same hardware under Win2000

When I put a CD in under Linux (Redhat 7.2) the
CD Player app comes up and the CD spins but
No sound.

Any ideas?
