[ale] can't reach sites using DSL

Also, verify your DNS settings if you have them set manually.  ISPs seem 
to have a bad habit of futzing around with DNS servers and not telling 
anyone.

For machines directly connected, it often gets set automatically but if 
you're behind a firewall, that breaks.
