[ale] Unable to boot up in run level 5

John,

It might be worth a look at /etc/lilo.conf to see it there is an incorrect
number in any of the "option" parameter entries.  For instance, the
following config would always boot into runlevel 3:

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.17
        label=linux
        root=/dev/md0
        append=" 3 ide0=0x9000,0x9004"
        read-only

An accidental typo is usually the cause of the case above.

Thanks for your help.  The inittab has always had 5 for the id.  As a
matter of fact I even added init 5 as in "id:5:initdefault:init 5"  This
didn't work either.  Again thanks for your help.
