[ale] Secrets to coimpiling on RH7.2

The issues go beyond compiling a kernel. I first ran into it when trying
to compile a C++ program called efax-gtk. I e-mailed the developer and
he told me that he and many other C++ developers had not yet found a
good way to work with gcc 3.0. He said that people compiling KDE
programs would run into the same problems, since KDE is largely done in
C++.
