The whois tool that comes with Mandrake is usually pretty good, though
sometimes it has problems. www.completewhois.com is also a pretty good
tool.

Incidently, the IETF has chartered a new working group to deal with this
problem (http://www.ietf.org/html.charters/crisp-charter.html).
